iQube by Tactiles

I designed packaging for the iQube's retail release, designed and created the in-app illustrations, designed the interface for the iQube's companion app, and designed the booklet for the user manual and information packet.
What work was done
Tactiles makes educational toys to help kids learn and appreciate science. Their flagship product is the IQube, a mobile-powered educational toy that teaches kids about electricity and electronics.

About Tactiles
What is the iQube?
The iQube is an app powered, hands-on educational kit that makes teaching and learning about electricity fun and simple.
Above is the design for the packaging's back panel. It's a pattern created by combining multiple cubes, with sides of the cube utilized to feature the iQube's marks as well as interaction with little children.
Featured above is the first packaging design proposal. It was eventually scrapped as it appeared too commercial and mainstream. We were an independent startup, and we felt it was only appropriate for the packaging to possess the independent spirit of the company. We did not want something that looked like what you usually see on the shelves.

Below are badges the kids gain as they make it through each lesson. This was created to establish a sense of progress and to further push gamification of the learning experience. They start out as Circuit Scouts and make it up the ranks as they progress through the game.

Packaging Design
Here are snippets of the packaging design that made the cut. The inside panel of the box features a sleeve that holds the product manual. The top foam was added for extra cushion featuring windows in the form of the iQube logo. The bottom foam is custom-fit to give maximum protection to each cube. When you lift the bottom foam, you will see that the inner panel features legends of each cube, so you know what each cube's purpose is if you lift it off of the packaging.

Awesome! If you'd like to see more of my in-app illustrations, I did a bunch for Tedi Kid's learning companion app. Check them out on the link below, or hit me up if you have a similar project you'd like to work on.
